Finally, Nathan Williams This Is United section is now online and it kicks of a week (3 days technically) of Nathan Williams on the United website. To celebrate the release of his Mothership v2 signature frame over the next few days all you will be seeing is fresh content from the man himself, starting with his savage video part from our the 2010 Nora Cup winning dvd.

Spearheaded by United owner and etnies Europe team manager Ian Morris, the bike company and legendary shoe maker have teamed up to bring the world the United x Etnies collaboration. This collaboration features three different models of shoes for Nathan Williams, Corey Martinez, and Ashley Charles, with matching colorways of one of United’s complete bikes, as well as corresponding clothing. While collaborations between brands may be all the rage these days, United and etnies are doing this one a bit differently, and the final result looks awesome. Ian was kind enough to sit down and chat with us about the new collaboration, which you can view in full below.

Collaborations are everywhere in BMX these days–what drove you guys to take this United x Etnies collaboration to the next level?
We used our resources and also those of Etnies to try and make something different, and wanted to make sure what we put out was the highest possible quality and with great execution. I am not sure if we took it all the way to the next level, I guess time will tell, but we wanted to add more to it than just the one product, hence the bike, shoe and the apparel range with three different riders promoting each to really tie it all together.

You’re using your SU2 complete bike from United for this project, which is consistent through all three riders. Are all of the bikes the same parts wise?
Yeah, we wanted to keep a simple fluid line without toying with the existing bike too much. The SU2 is tried and tested, with the pricing and spec sitting perfectly with what we visioned for the project. If we started changing parts for each individual bike it could end up affecting pricing or the overall look of the collection.

What’s the difference in the styles of shoes available? What type of rider will like Corey, Nathan, and Ashley’s shoe respectively?
Corey’s chosen model is the Portland, this is a mid top style shoe which suits those that like a little extra protection in the ankle area when riding. Nathan & Ashley chose the Jameson 2 and the Barge LS respectively, both these shoes work well for someone who likes a simple and lightweight shoe which has enough protection when you are riding and also looks good at the night time when dancing!

What type of rider is the bike aimed for?
With the SU2 being close to the high end of our complete bike line, it works right up to the intermediate/advanced level. I think this bike would appeal to a diverse group, collectors and riders alike.

I would imagine that the quantity of these items will be fairly small. How many of each product will be available, and will they be easy to get their hands on?
Actually, for such a high end bike we was blown away by how much people have got behind it, and even though it is a ltd edition project we have decided to run a second production on them. Same goes for the shoes, so getting hold of them is going to be pretty straight forward from all good BMX stores that carry United and Etnies.

Are the bikes, shirts, and shoes only going to be available as a package, or will it be possible to get your hands on a pair of shoes or just the bike separately?
It would be impossible to sell it as a package, just consolidating all the different shoe sizes, clothing sizes along with the bikes it would never happen, there will be a lot of stores though carrying the entire line, meaning you can go in and tailor make your choices to what ever rider/set up you prefer.
